Gold Star Society Membership

History

Gold Star Society launched in fall 2023 in support of the university and its potential and promise ahead. Originally founded as Student Foundation by the Dean of Students in 1978, the Gold Star Society is Texas State University's presidential ambassador organization. Gold Star Society members serve as official student representatives on behalf of the university and the University President at a variety of campus and community functions. Gold Stars showcase the excellence of Texas State and are role models of professionalism, hospitality, character, and Bobcat pride. Gold Star Society is a prestigious organization that provides opportunities for leadership development, meaningful campus involvement, and networking with university leadership, alumni, and other partners.

  • Students who exceed performance expectations may receive a letter of recommendation from Texas State University President Kelly Damphousse

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2.50 Texas State GPA (includes ONLY those courses completed at Texas State)
  • Completed a minimum of two (2) long semesters at Texas State as a full-time student
  • Enrolled full-time (with the exception of an undergraduate senior pursuing a specified course of study in which less than full-time status is authorized by their academic college for graduation)
  • Must have at least two (2) long semesters remaining - not including the semester in which they are applying
  • Be in good academic and social standing with the university

Responsibilities

Gold Star Society members are committed to fulfilling the following responsibilities on a volunteer basis for the term of one academic year:

  • Participate in bi-monthly meetings
  • Attend new member training events
  • Volunteer for at least two university events each semester, serving as a host, guide, greeter, or usher
  • Participate in at least one service event per academic year

Instructions

Applications for 2024-2025 membership will be available Monday, April 1 - Friday, April 19, 2024. Applicants will submit an application for review and consideration. If selected to interview, applicants will be contacted by a Gold Star Society Advisor via their Texas State University e-mail address with more information.
